Trumpet Workshop With Robert Baca

This workshop is designed to be fun and highly informative for the intermediate to advanced trumpet student performer. All attributes needed to build musicality and “chops” will be discussed along with performance applications for solo, orchestra, concert band, and jazz ensemble. Content will include private lessons, group study, and trumpet ensemble performance. Emphasis will be placed on fixing challenges faced by all participants. This workshop is an excellent opportunity for all trumpet players to learn how to advance your skills to the next level – whatever that is for you! This workshop provides multiple practical and motivational ideas that students can take back to their schools!

ABOUT ROBERT BACA:
Trumpeter Robert Baca is widely known in both classical and commercial areas. He has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra and is a current member of the Phillip Brunelle “Plymouth Music Series Orchestra” as well as a past member of the popular radio ensemble for Garrison Keilor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” He has toured with Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, Tony Bennett and Mel Torme and numerous others. Robert has performed for numerous Broadway shows, studio sessions and virtually every major entertainer in the world who has performed in The Twin Cities over the last twenty two years. He has performed as a classical/jazz soloist in China, London, Costa Rica and Europe. Robert recorded the theme for the 2003 Tour De France heard worldwide.
Mr. Baca has been Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire since 1986. He directs the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I, recognized as one of the premiere jazz ensembles in the United States with eleven recorded CDs, five of which were awarded the prestigious Down Beat Award in the “Best Big Band” category and two were nominated for a Grammy. The ensemble’s schedule has included multiple performances at the International Midwest Band Directors Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, the New York Brass Conference in New York City, the Minnesota, Illinois and Ohio Music Educators Conferences, Regional MENC Conferences, and several performances at the MENC National Conference as well as being recognized as the first Jazz Ensemble to perform in China since opening to the western world.
As a teacher, Mr. Baca works with all levels of students and has served as conductor for many All State Honors jazz ensembles. Robert has frequently been a faculty member of the Conn-Selmer Institute led by Tim Lauzenheiser for the last decade as well as a featured speaker on trumpet, jazz and music education topics at conventions throughout the United States. He was a past executive board member for the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) as the United States Representative as well as an advisory board member for the “Edwin Franko Goldman Band.” in New York City. Bob also served as past president of the International Association of Jazz Educators, Wisconsin Chapter.
