Mr. Hoover is excited to be with the band program at Rosemount High School in his fourth year of professional teaching. Originally from Anoka, Minnesota, he earned a bachelor of music degree in music education and in music performance from the University of Minnesota. In addition to extensive training in conducting bands, Percussion is his primary area of instrumental music expertise. He has training and experience in low brass instruments as a secondary instrumental focus. Mr. Hoover will be working with students in the Rosemount High School marching band, concert bands, and percussion ensemble while providing lessons to percussionists and low brass instrumentalists.
Mr. Hoover was the assistant marching band director at Anoka High School and the director of their winter percussion ensemble from 2006 thru 2009. He has also taught and arranged for numerous percussion ensembles in the state, including ensembles at Becker High School, Henry-Sibley High School, Irondale High School, Waconia High School, and the indoor drumline River City Rhythm. Mr. Hoover currently serves on the Minnesota Percussion Association Board of Directors and organizes their annual Day of Percussion, which reaches an audience of nearly 700 high school and college percussion students. In the spring of 2009, Mr. Hoover was voted the Minnesota Percussion Association 'Instructor of the Year.'
In December 2007, he won the Missoula Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition and was awarded two performances with the Montana-based professional orchestra. Since then he has maintained an active performance schedule both abroad and at home, performing locally with the Northern Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, and internationally in percussion festivals in Germany and Costa Rica.
Mr. Hoover performed with the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps in 2003 and 2004, The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005, 2006, and 2008, and with the Minnesota Brass Indoor Drumline in 2008 and 2009. He was crowned Drum Corps International World Champion in 2003 and 2006 and was awarded four separate Drum Corps International Individual and Ensemble Gold Medals in 2005, 2006, and 2008 in the categories of percussion ensemble (twice), multi-percussion solo, and keyboard solo respectively.
Scott Palmer is excited to join the faculty of Rosemount High School, Rosemount, Minnesota in the fall of 2018. This will be his 13th year of teaching instrumental music. Mr. Palmer received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music Appleton, WI in June, 2006 and a Master in Wind Band Conducting from the American Band College at Sam Huston State University, Huntsville, TX in July, 2015.
Prior to coming to Rosemount, Scott Palmer taught his first twelve years at Eden Prairie High School. Where he conducted 9th grade Concert Bands, Symphonic Band, Jazz II, Wind, Symphonic and Concert Percussion Ensemble, was the director of the Eagle Marching Band, and the Winter Drumline and taught instrumental lessons. Under Mr. Palmers direction the Eagle Marching band was a BOA Super Regional Finalist and Minnesota State Marching Band Champion. The Eden Prairie Winter Drumline was a WGI Scholastic World finalist in 2013, and 2014. The Eden Prairie Percussion Ensembles performed at the MN State Music convention in 2010, and at the National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis in March 2010, 2014.
Mr. Palmer is an active member of the Drum Corps community and has taught several groups including Minnesota Brass, Blue Stars, Colts, and the Blue Devils. In addition to Lawrence University and American Band College, Mr. Palmer is an alumnus of Eden Prairie High School, the Madison Scouts and the Minnesota Brass, Inc. drum and bugle corps.
Mr. Sieve joined the faculty of Rosemount High School, Rosemount, Minnesota in the fall of 2002 and is in his 27th year of teaching instrumental music. A native of Adrian, Minnesota, Leon received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from South Dakota State University, Brookings, South Dakota in May, 1993 and a masters degree from the American Band College at Southern Oregon University, Ashland, Oregon in July, 2005.
Mr. Sieve has held two previous teaching assignments. From 1993-1994, he was Director of Bands at Holdingford Area High School, Holdingford, Minnesota serving as the instrumental instructor for grades seven through twelve. From 1994-2002, he was Director of Bands at Milaca High School, Milaca, Minnesota, directing the entire nine through twelve instrumental music program. While teaching in Milaca, the top concert band was highlighted at the 2002 Minnesota Music Educators Association state convention held in the Minneapolis Convention Center in February of that year.
His responsibilities at Rosemount High School include the direction of two of the seven concert ensembles, woodwind specialist for the band program, team teaching the fall marching band, woodwind chamber ensembles, winter pep band, jazz ensembles, solos and ensembles, and designing and choreographing the award winning RHS Color Guard. He has also directed the musical "pit" for their outstanding drama department and held the role of department coordinator for 3 years.
Mr. Sieve was awarded a "Leadership in Educational Excellence" award in 1997 and is the 2001 recipient of the "Minnesota Distinguished Young Band Director Award." He is listed in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" and is a member of MENC, the Minnesota Music Educator's Association (MMEA), and the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) and has served as the Metro High School Representative to the Board of Directors. He was inducted into Phi Beta Mu in February, 2003.
Owen Tucker has been studying and performing music for two decades. He has performed with numerous ensembles over the past fifteen years, including concert bands, big-band jazz, symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, jazz combos, concert quintets, religious service ensembles, funk bands, and more. Owen is a graduate of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and Northwestern University in Chicago, where he earned degrees in music performance. Since returning from Chicago, Owen has been teaching in the Twin Cities area for the past seven years, in various capacities, including private lessons at Rosemount, Henry-Sibley, and Maple Grove High Schools, as well as after-school jazz band and marching band programs at Rosemount HS and marching band at Maple Grove HS. 2018 is his 8th season with the RHS Marching Band.
Lucas has been involved in the marching activity as a performer and instructor for 15 years. He has performed with Rosemount High School, Minnesota Brass and the Madison Scouts. This is his 12th year on staff with the Rosemount High School Marching Band.
Hello my name is Joel Firchow and I have taught in ISD 196 for 22 years. I also marched with Phantom Regiment from 1991-1994. Currently I teach at Scott Highlands Middle School. I have enjoyed working with students, staff, and parents from Rosemount marching band.
Adam Shew is excited to return to the Rosemount High School Marching Band on staff! Adam graduated from Rosemount in 2017 after being heavily involved with the Marching Band all his four years of high school. During his time at Rosemount, Adam marched tenor saxophone for three years and served as drum major his senior year.
After graduation, Adam has marched with River City Rhythm Drum and Bugle Corps, both on baritone and as a drum major, and with the Pride of Minnesota Marching Band as a tenor saxophone. He has been teaching private saxophone lessons throughout the twin cities area and was on staff with the Eden Prairie Marching Band. Adam currently attends the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities pursuing a degree in Music Education and Saxophone Performance.
Alex Zhu graduated from Rosemount High School in 2017 after marching 3 years as a clarinetist in the marching band. He was also a part of Rosemount's wind ensemble, indoor winds, pit orchestra and jazz band programs. After graduating, he continued his marching arts career with two seasons at River City Rhythm Drum & Bugle Corps as a trumpet player. Additionally, Alex has had the privilege to serve in leadership positions with both organizations, helping guide and mentor his peers in the activity. He is currently a student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, where he studies Aerospace Engineering.
Joe Jaeger has been an active percussion educator, director, designer, and performer in the Twin Cities area since 2009. He has instructed and arranged for marching band and indoor percussion at Rosemount HS, Eden Prairie HS, 728 Cadets, River Valley Percussion Theatre, Blaine HS, Armstrong HS, Baldwin/Woodville HS, among many more. In 2014 he spent the summer as the percussion caption head for Chops Drum and Bugle Corps, and has since been the battery coordinator for Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps/Indoor Drumline. Joe holds an Associate in Fine Arts/Music degree from Normandale Community College and is currently studying at the University of Minnesota to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.
Currently, Joe is the battery arranger/Instructor and a private percussion teacher at Rosemount High School. He has worked with the program since 2011.
Joe’s marching experience includes 6 years of drum corps and 4 years of indoor percussion: Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps (2009, 2010, 2013, 2016), Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps (2011, 2012), and Minnesota Brass Indoor (2010-2013).
Erin VanBurkleo joined the Rosemount High School Marching Band team in 2005 and is excited to be in her 14th year with the group! She started her percussion career with the Eagan High School winter drumline as a performer in the front ensemble in 2001. After graduating from Eagan, she performed with The Academy drum and bugle corps in the front ensemble in 2007. Starting in 2005, Erin performed with the Minnesota Brass drum corps and continued in 2006, and from 2008-2014.
Erin has taught front ensembles at multiple programs throughout the twin cities since 2004. These include Eagan High School winter drumline from 2004-2013, River City Rhythm 2011-2012, Eden Prairie High School winter drumline since 2013, Minnesota Brass Indoor since 2013, and last but certainly not least the Rosemount High School marching band since 2005.
Erin is a graduate of St. Olaf college with a B.A. in History and Classics. She currently works in nonprofit fundraising and serves on the Minnesota Percussion Association Board of Directors as First Vice President.
Vlad has been teaching percussion in Minnesota since 2003, having worked with the Champlin Park High School Marching Band and Indoor Drumline (2003–2008) and the Eden Prairie High School Marching Band (2008–2010). He currently works with the Rosemount High School Marching Band, where he started in 2011; the Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps and Indoor Drumline, where he started in 2010; and the South St. Paul High School Drumline, where he started in 2009.
Vlad has served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Percussion Association since 2010 and is the current president of the board.
He is a proud alumnus of South St. Paul High School, where he participated in the marching band and indoor drumline from 1997–2002. He also marched with the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps (2001–2002), the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps (2004–2006), and the Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps (2003, 2007–2008). Vlad has a degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota and works in editing and Web site communications. In his spare time, he enjoys petting strangers' dogs and writing his bio.
Lucas is a Rosemount High School Alumni and marched in the band from 2012-2014. He was a member of River City Rhythm indoor 2014-2016 and Minnesota Brass from 2016-2017. Lucas recently completed the 2018 DCI season with the Oregon Crusaders. Lucas has taught the Forest Lake High School Indoor Drumline from 2015-2017. The 2018 season of Rosemount Marching Band will be my second year teaching as a percussion staff member.
Zach graduated from Farmington High School in 2015. He then went on to study music education at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where he marched two seasons in the Blugold Marching Band and was involved in numerous ensembles and the percussion studio. Zach marched with the Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps in 2015 and 2016 and the Madison Scouts in 2017. He also marched with Minnesota Brass Indoor Drumline in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Beginning in 2015, Zach started teaching with Rosemount as the Bass Technician and has been on staff in every season following. He has also worked with the Menomonie indoor drumline and the Baldwin-Woodvile indoor drumline in past indoor seasons, also in the role of the Bass Technician. Zach worked with the Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps in their 2018 season as a Battery Technician.
Has taught with: St. Francis Highschool, Irondale High School, Anoka Highschool, Maple Grove Highschool, the 728 Cadets, and River City Rhythm. Marching career consists of 4 years of River City Rhythm indoor, River City Rhythm DBC, Minnesota Brass DBC, and two years with the Govenaires drum and bugle corps.
Natalie Sterner started her marching career with Rosemount High School and has since performed with MBI Winter Guard, Lux Independent, and multiple dance ensembles throughout high school and college. She studied Dance Movement Therapy at University of Wisconsin Madison and has applied that knowledge in both her technique and teaching. She currently teaches at Rosemount High School and River City Rhythm Winter Guard
Lisa Rodenkirchen has been involved in the marching arts for the past 25 years and has been at Rosemount High School since the fall of 2017. She started her marching career at Eden Prairie High School and has performed with both Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps and Lux Independent Winter Guard for several years. Lisa has taught various groups throughout the state such as Irondale High School, River City Rhythm Drum Corps and Winter Guard, Eastview High School, Sibley High School, Synchrony Winterguard, Anoka High School, and River Valley Winter Guard.
Lisa has a BA in Music Education from Gustavus Adolphus College and a MEd in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Minnesota. She currently teaches Special Education for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Minneapolis Public School District.
Lexi graduated from Rosemount High School in 2014 and was a member of the colorguard for all four years of high school. She also performed with the Minnesota Brass winterguard in 2014, was a charter member of the River City Rythm Drum and Bugle Corps in 2015 and aged out of the organization in 2017. Lexi graduated from Drake University this year and is excited to be teaching the for the Rosemount and Champlin Park high school colorguards this season.
Savannah is a Rosemount color guard alumni and is excited to be back, teaching with the program that fueled her passion for performance. She has an extensive marching background in color guard after graduating from Rosemount in 2014. She has performed with the winter guards Minnesota Brass Indoor, Lux Independent, and River City Rhythm. She has also marched multiple years of drum corps with the group River City Rhythm, and aged out with the Phantom Regiment in 2017. After returning from tour with Phantom, she taught for the Eastview High School color guard and this year is teaching at the high schools Rosemount and Champlin Park. She also began teaching at River City Rhythm drum corps for their 2018 season.
