Band For All Program

Band For All  Fab Four Instrument Drive
February 28 – April 15, 2011*
*
After four fabulous years of Band For All donations we need your help to ensure a fabulous fifth year.

*Although we are trying to obtain instruments for students starting this summer, this is a continuing donation program. It’s never too late to donate!

 BACKGROUND

In the spring of 2007 we started collecting gently used instruments. Nearly 80 instruments were donated at the 100 Horns Benefit at Valley Middle School in March 2007.

WHAT

We need your help in finding more instruments (about 65!) for fourth graders who want to start band this summer.

HOW

Ask neighbors, friends if they have an unused instrument to donate. Be creative! Will your church allow you to make an announcement and collect instruments?

AND THEN?

  • Be sure to include inside the instrument case a piece of paper with the donor’s name, address and phone number so we can send a letter for tax purposes. Donation letters are mailed quarterly to donors.

  • Take the instrument to your band director and tell them it is a BFA donation

  • We will announce the results of our instrument drive at the Panorama Concert on March 13 at Apple Valley High School.

HUH? Email bandforall@district196.org if you have more questions.

Consider…

  • The fifth grade students who started on those first donated instruments in the fall of 2007 will be playing in high school bands this fall

  • currently 246 students are able to participate in the District 196 instrumental music program because they have access to a donated instrument

  • each year more students are able to start band in District 196 because community residents and 196 band alumni are donating instruments

  • We are currently in need of approximately 65 additional instruments for students who are in fourth grade who would like to start band this summer. Although we accept and make use of all instruments, we are always in need of flutes and clarinets.

We are also in need of cash donations to repair these instruments and purchase supplies for the students who use donated instruments. Monetary donations may be sent to Valley Middle School, care of Cindy Hanson (900 Gardenview Dr, Apple Valley, MN 55124). Checks may be made out to DISTRICT 196 Valley Middle School. Please write “Band For All” in the memo line.

We accept all donations but are especially grateful for instruments that are in playing condition since our repair funds are very limited. If you wish to have your instrument tuned up before making the donation, please contact one of our local repair shops.
