BAND CAMP FRIDAY PERFORMANCE
FRIDAY, AUG. 1, 4-5pm
St. John’s University Clemens Stadium
On Friday, Aug. 1, (last day of Band Camp!) we will celebrate our camp accomplishments with a demonstration of what we have learned – a performance of our marching band show (a work in progress!)!  It will be an exciting end to our week of Band Camp and EVERYONE is invited! It’s good to SHARE CAMP with your child and attend this fun event!

The presentation will begin promptly at 4 PM and will occur in the St. John’s University Clemens Stadium.  The performance will end at approximately 5 PM at which time all students will help load equipment and then we will all depart.  Because this has traditionally been a well-attended event for all RHS Band FAMILIES – we encourage students to ride home with their family.  Please complete the BAND CAMP FORM -  NOT RIDING BUS HOME REGISTRATION form - and give to Mr. Olsen prior to Band Camp.

* PARENTS PLEASE NOTE:

•St. John’s University does not allow dogs/cats on their campus
•Friday afternoon traffic heading north from the Twin Cities can be quite heavy and slow – please plan accordingly allowing for extra travel time - and drive safely!
•Without traffic – the trip from Rosemount to St. John’s takes slightly less than two hours
• If poor weather occurs, the performance presentation will be moved indoors to the Field House or possibly canceled.

STUDENTS – WHAT TO BRING TO MARCHING BAND PRACTICE:
•DRESS appropriately for the weather
•PERFORMANCE EQUIPMENT - Instrument, Rifle/Sabre/Flag, Drum & sticks/mallets, etc.
•WATER BOTTLE(S), we recommend you have two water bottles – one large & one small.  LARGE: the large wide-mouth style water bottle (1/2-Gallon Jug), in addition to a small one you can carry with you at all times.
•NOTEBOOK BINDER:  Three-ring (1-2 inch) notebook binder with clear sheet protectors — for safekeeping of all your Show Music and Technique Book/Fundamental Exercises & drill.
•DOT BOOK - you will create this; add a lanyard to this so you can “wear” it (very helpful!)
•PENCIL/PEN — you will be expected to constantly mark your music (especially in the initial learning stages)
•Thick TOWEL — will be used to protect your instrument when placed on the ground (outside). Tubas will not use towels (use tuba-feet).
•WIRE MUSIC STAND – Hornline only
•ATHLETIC SHOES — movement will occur at all rehearsals. Other types of footwear will not be acceptable.
•FOOD – Bring food and healthy energy snacks to eat during breaks; and always eat a healthy early-supper prior to attending practice!
•SUNSCREEN, must be at least 30+ SPF (preferably 50+) and contain UV protection.
CAP or HAT.  A baseball style cap (or some kind of hat) to protect your head and face from sun exposure.
•SUNGLASSES
•BUG SPRAY - the infamous Minnesota mosquitos will be out at dusk!
•EARPLUGS are recommended for all Marching Band members (especially Percussionists) – for use at various times (especially useful for “drill focused” rehearsals).  FOAM EARPLUGS can be purchased inexpensively at Target, Walmart or any drug store.  Musicians Earplugs (highly recommended!!) can be obtained in the RHS Band Office $5 (retail for $15).  One FREE pair given to all NEW members!
•MARCHING BAND APRON – given to all new members.  Wear this to carry your materials while marching.
•Optional - GLOVES—to be worn in rehearsal, to help you prepare for performance (where we do use gloves) and to get a better grip on your instrument (especially when you are hot and perspiring). Baseball or Golf Gloves (leather) are especially helpful.  Gloves that are dirty or overly worn are never acceptable.
•BACKPACK is recommended—to keep and carry all necessary supplies

HORNLINE MUSIC MEMORIZATION TESTING
•Music Testing occurs each day of Marching Band practice, starting one-hour prior to the start of practice in the Music Studio (just inside the RHS main entrance) or Student Center. First come first serve - get there early!

•Students should ask their Squad or Section leader to test with you and/or help you with music.
•List posted in Music Studio area of people who have passed what specific tunes
